Banque Misr Sponsors Faculty of Economics and Political Science Conference

Restoring Balance to Egypt's Economy; Inspired by Talaat Harb's Legacy

Banque Misr sponsored the conference organized by the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, in coordination with Dr. Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, and Dr. Hala El-Saeed, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University. The sponsorship was also undertaken in cooperation with the Alliance of Egyptians in North America.

The conference was entitled "Restoring Balance to Egypt's Economy; Inspired by Talaat Harb's Legacy", on the occasion of the commemoration of pioneering banker Talaat Harb Pasha's 149th birthday. His unique experience is considered to have raised the standard of the Egyptian economy through building a conscious industrial methodology, which allowed for the establishment of all the vital institutions that forged the way for economic independence and political liberation.

The conference was attended by a number of public figures, including the grandchildren of Talaat Harb Pasha, Mr. Mohamed Nabil Ibrahim, as well as Mr. Sherif Samy, Chairman of the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority. Additionally, the keynote speaker was Eric Davis, Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University. David spoke about his book "Challenging Colonialism: Bank Misr and Egyptian Industrialization", which delves into Talaat Harb's experience in restoring balance to Egypt's economy in all areas.

The conference was also attended by Dr. Gouda Abdel Khalek, Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science and former Minister of Social Solidarity; Dr. Ali Soliman, Head of the Association of Former International Civil Servants of the United Nations; former Minister of Industry Mohamed Abdel Wahab; and Dr. Ibrahim Fawzy, Professor of Architecture at Cairo University and former Minister of Industry.

Banque Misr moreover held a reception at its headquarters for all participants in the conference, during which the representatives of Cairo University awarded a shield of honor to Mr. Mohamed El-Etriby, Chairman of Banque Misr.
