Mr. Mohamed Abbas Hassan Fayed

Mr. Mohammed Abbas has over 20 years of experience in the fields of banking and finance, 15 years of which were focused on corporate banking; including project finance, syndicated loans, acquisition finance, corporate bonds, securitization, restructuring, and Islamic finance.

 

Mr. Mohammed spent 16 years at Misr International Bank (MIBank) before joining Banque Misr in 2007. At MIBank he held a number of corporate banking positions culminating with the position of Deputy Group Head (Corporate Line of Business) and Head of Project Finance and Syndicated Loans, Corporate Bonds, Structured Finance, and Private Equity. Moving to Banque Misr, he assumed the position of Head of Project Finance and Syndicated Loans, Corporate Bonds, Structured Finance, and Product Development, to be promoted in 2009 to Group Head of Corporate Banking and Syndicated Loans. His current position at Banque Misr sees him making strategic plans, enhancing the quality of the corporate portfolio, designing new corporate products/structures, performing periodic evaluations of the loan portfolio, among many other tasks.

Throughout his long career, Mr. Mohammed has built a strong track record highlighted by several achievements. Among these achievements are his significant involvement in Banque Misr’s and MIBank’s restructuring plans (carried out in cooperation with ABN AMRO and Lloyds TSB) as well as his participation in establishing a central corporate group and investment banking division in both banks in addition to preparing the corporate group’s strategic plans, portfolio budgets and credit policies. He has also chaired and joined several credit committees in MIBank and Banque Misr, and played a dominant role in the committee formed for the purpose of merging MIBank into NSGB.

A significant accomplishment has also been Mr. Mohammed’s ability to increase Banque Misr’s performing credit portfolio, which had a positive impact on the Bank’s profit/loss and return on equity positions, thereby appearing for the first time on the Bloomberg League Table as a mandated lead arranger and attaining 4th place.

Mr. Mohammed’s professional experience is supported by a solid academic background as he has a B.Sc. in Accounting from Alexandria University and a Bank Credit Diploma from the Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences. Additionally, he has attended a number of training programs in different fields including advanced techniques of banking credit management, portfolio management and derivatives, private equity and venture capital, equity valuation techniques, treatment of non-performing loans, fully integrated credit analysis, among many others.
