Banque Misr Supports the “Speak Egyptian” Initiative Targeting Children of Egyptian Expats
05/10/2020

In line with its pioneering role in the field of corporate social responsibility, Banque Misr keenly supported the first phase of the “Speak Egyptian” initiative, which was inaugurated on Thursday, 1st October 2020 by the Ministry of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. The initiative comes within the framework of the state’s efforts towards spreading cultural and national awareness amongst Egyptians – especially expatriates – due to the importance of familiarizing the children of Egyptian expats with the motherland; and the concept of the state and national security. Also worth noting is that this initiative paves the way for Egyptian youths abroad to rediscover their motherland and the challenges it confronts.

The main objective of the initiative is to teach the Arabic language to young Egyptian generations abroad, in its simple Egyptian form, as a strong link binding them to their homeland. As such, simple content is presented to these youths, by spreading common Arabic words and terminologies, teaching the Arabic alphabet and combining these techniques to enable word formation; through interactive activities for children, in which all family members may participate; as well as the creation of stories, songs and video clips incorporating this content.

Banque Misr’s endorsement of this initiative reiterates its pioneering role in the field of corporate social responsibility – being a key pillar in which the Bank firmly believes – for rendering assistance to Egyptian society. This is by partaking in various social activities and initiatives and striving to advance communities in general - in multiple domains - such as health, education, social solidarity and communal development. This is reflected in projects such as developing the most deserving Egyptian villages via small and micro enterprises, in order to create job opportunities for youths and female breadwinners, in collaboration with civil society organizations. This is in addition to the development of slum areas and all that relates to human development. Banque Misr consistently encourages partnerships between all sectors of Egyptian society, through leading by example, towards contributing to the achievement of sustainable development. On this note, it should be pointed out that Banque Misr expended some EGP 1.4 billion in the field of corporate social responsibility during FY 2019/2020.

The Bank has also won several awards in the domain of corporate social responsibility; such as the award for “Best CSR Bank – Egypt” from International Business magazine for 2018, 2019 and 2020; and “Best CSR Bank - Egypt 2019 and 2020” from International Finance magazine. This is in addition to “Best CSR Bank - Egypt 2019 and 2020” from Global Banking and Finance Review; and “Best CSR Bank - Egypt 2020” from Cosmopolitan the Daily magazine. The Bank’s acquisition of this extensive list of awards and accolades crowns its efforts and asserts its pioneering role and consistent ability to achieve robust growth rates in the area of corporate social responsibility.

Also worth noting is that Banque Misr constantly encourages partnerships between all sectors of Egyptian society, through leading by example, for the purpose of attaining sustainable development.
