Banque Misr Acquires Accreditation for the First Environmentally Friendly Branch in Egypt “Tarsheed”
Banque Misr’s “Mostafa El-Nahhas Branch” recently acquired the silver Tarsheed certificate, which reflects the Bank’s commitment to social responsibility, preserving the environment and upholding the principles of sustainable development. The acquisition of this unique certificate requires compliance with environmentally friendly practices in order to mitigate adverse environmental effects, while providing a healthy environment for workers and customers. It also represents the core of an advanced and methodological approach, seeking to boost the efficiency of our future branches.
Worth noting is that the criteria for acquiring Tarsheed certificate – which is issued by the Egypt Green Building Council – includes three aspects that gauge the building’s adherence to environmental requirements and sustainability principles. The first involves conserving sources of energy through effective design and equipment; the second is conserving water consumption, the use of sensitive/water-saving faucets and encouraging users to conserve water and energy consumption; and the third relates to fostering a healthy work environment by reducing the use of imported materials and resources, coupled with the utilization of recycled and green building materials. The Bank’s branch was designed in collaboration with Econsult.
Also worth noting is that Banque Misr is considered one of the largest and most experienced banks in the area of social development; and the most environmentally aware and responsible, insofar as governance regulations, which complement its principles of long-term performance and sustainability. Banque Misr is the first state-owned bank to receive the approval of the General Reporting Initiative (GRI) and reports its business in accordance with the principles of sustainability; by taking into consideration such tenets as governance, human rights, anti-corruption, social participation and environmental safety standards.
The Bank also complies with UN Global Compact for Citizenship (Corporate Social Responsibility) standards; and has recently joined UNEP’s “Principles of Responsible Banking”, which target sustainable development and social and environmental corporate responsibility.
Banque Misr’s reporting function focuses on highlighting the achievements of the Bank’s various sectors, how to collaborate responsibly with all relevant parties, promoting sound practices to attain sustainability and the governance of all operations to fulfil these principles. This is in addition to maintaining transparency and accountability and contributing to the objectives of the community. The Bank also partakes in sustainability initiatives and projects that underscore the importance of collaboration between various institutions, sectors and segments to create a positive and sustainable impact on the environment and on society at large.
Banque Misr seeks to enhance its distinguished services and to maintain its long-term success by offering services that meet the requirements of its customers, since the values and strategies of the Bank underscore its commitment to attain sustainable development and prosperity for Egypt.
