Banque Misr Foundation for Community Development Signs Four Collaboration Protocols with Civil Society Organizations to Finance Development of Some of the Most Deserving Slums and Villages
Banque Misr is an integral part of the Egyptian society. As part of Banque Misr's responsibility towards the society and as part of the bank's social role that it has played since its inception; the Banque Misr Foundation for Community Development has signed collaboration protocols with four organizations to finance comprehensive development projects in a number of villages in Upper Egypt. The signature took place on Monday, 16 September 2019. These collaborations come within the framework of the "You can make your country better" initiative that was launched by Banque Misr Foundation for Community Development. The initiative includes educational, economic, health and social activities.
The protocols were signed by Mr Mohamed El-Etreby – Chairman of Banque Misr and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Banque Misr Foundation for Community Development. Mr El-Etreby signed the protocols with representatives of the civil society organizations. Dr Ali Al Saeedi, the deputy head of Banque Misr Foundation, was in attendance, as well as Mr Akef El Maghraby and Mr Hossam Abdel Wahab – Co-Vice Chairmen of Banque Misr. The ceremony was also attended by chairmen and officials of the civil society organizations.
Through these protocols, Banque Misr Foundation for Community Development will finance the project "Together for the comprehensive development of Iqleet village"; Iqleet is a village in Kom Ombo, Aswan. The project is carried out by Masr El Mahrousa Baladi Association. Banque Misr Foundation will also finance the development project of villages of Rawafe' AlEissaweyya, Monsha'a, Sohag governorate. The project is carried out by Life Makers Foundation. Banque Misr Foundation will finance the comprehensive development project of the villages of Fazzara, Gazzazra, and Samarna; the three villages are in Maragha, Sohag governorate. The project is carried out by Amr Ibn Abdel Aziz organization in Juhayna. Finally, Banque Misr will also finance the "Dream Project" organization that supports the development of families of Duwaiqa, Cairo governorate that will be carried out by Gannat El-khulood Charitable organization.
Banque Misr also participates in many activities that support society development, whether directly or indirectly through its non-profit foundation. These activities span across several domains, e.g. health, education, social solidarity and community development, such as projects that support the comprehensive development of the most deserving Egyptian villages and slums, and all other projects related to human development.
In the fiscal year 2018/2019, Banque Misr's spending on such projects has reached around EGP 750 million. Banque Misr is considered one of the largest Egyptian banks in the field of corporate social responsibility; and one of the most environmentally and socially responsible institutions with strong governance rules that complement its performance standards and long-term business sustainability. Banque Misr is the first Egyptian government-owned bank to be GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) compliant. This means that Banque Misr conducts business in line with the principles of sustainability through governance, respecting human rights, combatting corruption and through community participation while taking into account environmental safety standards in adhere to the UN Global Compact standards.
Banque Misr has recently won several international awards; out of which was the award for the best bank in social responsibility – Egypt 2018 and the best bank in environmental sustainability – Egypt 2019 from the British Global Business Outlook magazine. The bank also won the award for the best bank in social responsibility – Egypt 2019 from the International Business magazine for the years 2018 and 2019. It also won the award for the best bank in social responsibility – Egypt 2019 from the International Finance magazine. Additionally, the bank won the award for the best bank in social responsibility – Egypt 2019 from the British Global Brands magazine.
