National Bank of Egypt and Commercial
International Bank Sponsor Sports and Youth Activities at EGP 34 Million in
Collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and in Coordination with
FEB
Four Egyptian banks undertook to sponsor various sports and
youth activities in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and in
coordination with the Federation of Egyptian Banks, Chaired by Mr. Mohamed
El-Etreby. FEB assumed the role of initiative coordinator, which comes in line
with the banks’ leading role in the field of corporate social responsibility.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy – Minister of Youth and Sports – signed the sponsorship contract
with the heads of the participating banks; Mr. Mohamed El-Etreby – Chairman of
the Board of Banque Misr, Mr. Yehia Aboulfotouh – Deputy Chairman of the
National Bank of Egypt, Mr. Hussein Abaza – Chief Executive Officer of
Commercial International Bank (Egypt) and Mr. Tarek Fayed – Chairman of the
Board of Banque du Caire.
The signature of the sponsorship agreement comes within the
framework of supporting the activities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports,
which are considered pivotal in encouraging partaking in various sports and scouting
talented athletes. Such activities are also considered instrumental state
projects, especially since youth are by far the largest social segment in
Egyptian society; and due to the importance of promoting health and fitness
amongst Egyptian citizens. The initiative aims to endorse a number of training
centers for a period of three years in the governorates of Cairo, Fayoum, Port
Said, South Sinai, Luxor and Aswan. These contain several fields and courts
covering a multitude of sports activities, with the objective of developing and
improving the health and fitness of residents in these governorates.
The agreement also incorporates the organization of
recreational and cultural trips for all youth from various governorates –
onboard trains – to visit the destinations and antiquity sites in Luxor and
Aswan. Some 15 thousand youths are expected to benefit from this initiative throughout
the country and for a period of seven months; divided into 30 groups, with each
group including 500 young men and women. This is in addition to sponsoring a
creativity festival in which 149 government and private universities,
institutes and academies are expected to participate, together with students
from the Police Academy. The participants will compete in 23 areas (literary,
scientific and artistic) and the festival is set to benefit around 40 thousand
male and female students.
