The Ministry of Awqaf signed a collaboration protocol with Banque Misr and Fawry Dahab company for automating Zakat and donation boxes in mosques and electronic collection of the same, on Saturday 23/4/2022 at the Ministry; in the attendance of H.E. Dr. Mukhtar Gomaa – the Minister of Awqaf, Mr. Mohamed El-Etreby – Chairman of the Board of Banque Misr, Mr. Ihab Dorra – Head of Branches and Retail Banking at Banque Misr, Colonel Walid El-Sayed Mohamed – Manager and Board Member of Fawry Dahab for Electronic Payments, Lieutenant Salah Abdel-Ghany – the company’s Development Manager, Eng. Ahmed Fahmy – Head of the Governmental Sector, Hossam Ezz – Manager of Fawry Plus and heads of boards of the mosques to be serviced.
During the signing of the protocol, H.E. Dr. Mukhtar Gomaa – the Minister of Awqaf – reiterated seeking the highest levels of integrity and transparency by leveraging the latest governance systems.
Following the signature, Mr. Mohamed El-Etreby – Chairman of the Board of Banque Misr – stated that the signing of this protocol comes in line with Banque Misr’s adoption of the concept of digital transformation and innovation; whereby the Bank strives to localize advanced technological services in all its transactions, with the aim of facilitating payments for Egyptian citizens. This is in line with the policies of the National Electronic Payments Council and is achieved through incentivizing the use of electronic channels instead of cash payment.
Worth noting is that the signing of this protocol comes in line with Banque Misr’s efforts to offer a safe electronic collection tool, by providing POS devices that enable citizens wishing to make donations or pay Zakat to do so using banking cards. Moreover, a QR Code will be created for each Ministry mosque throughout Egypt, so that donations can be made via electronic wallets, in collaboration with Fawry Dahab and via its network in all governorates.
The protocol aims to automate Zakat and donation boxes in mosques, following the decision made to prohibit the collection of cash assistance, which aligns with state efforts to achieve financial transparency, regulate cash and in-kind donations, support cashless payment transactions and setting a regulated framework for financial transactions. This is in order to safeguard funds and ensure they reach their respective destinations in a sound and secure manner.
The protocol also testifies to the support given to cashless transformation by the Ministry of Awqaf, Banque Misr and Fawry Dahab company, as well as to completing all banking transactions conveniently; in light of the preference for social distancing and the utilization of electronic services as a safe alternative in current conditions. It also contributes to achieving financial inclusion as a national state objective and fulfills the policies of the National Council for Electronic Payments.
The signing of this protocol complements Banque Misr’s success in the field of electronic payments, since it was a pioneer in providing electronic collection and payment services via QR Code. The Bank is also considered the first to offer withdrawal and deposit services for mobile wallets via its ATM network, enabling individuals to make cash transfers and withdraw the same momentarily at the recipient end. Banque Misr was also one of the first banks to render electronic banking services and mobile payment through its BM Wallet application.
Banque Misr supports digital transformation by offering convenient electronic solutions, thus contributing to providing banking and financial services in an advanced and seamless manner. The Bank also actively partakes in initiatives and protocols that serve the needs of all customer segments, as its business values and strategies reflect a strong commitment to achieving sustainable development and prosperity for Egypt.
