Banque Misr, along with Banque Misr Foundation for Community Development, signed a cooperation protocol withInteriorMinistryon Sunday, May 5th2019. The protocol aims to aid the families of prisoners and discharged ones in the light of “All of us are one” initiative that was launched under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.
The protocol signing ceremony was attended by Banque Misr Chairman, Mohamed El-Etreby, and his Vice Chairman, Hossam Eldin Abdelwahab, along with senior officials at the Ministry of Interior and several prominent public figures. The protocol aims to support the discharged prisoners, their families, and people with disabilities through providing them with in-kind aids and prosthetic appliances. Besides, the Ministry organizes events and ceremonies supporting the discharged prisoners and people to run their own small businesses.
Banque Misr signed the protocol as part of its commitments to support the State’s efforts for rehabilitating discharged prisoners and re-integrate them to community to have a productive role in community development instead of neglecting them, which increase the risk of their involvement in crime once again. This phase requires reaching partnerships with national and civil -society institutions for boosting Egypt’s development.
Banque Misr is considered one of the largest banks with a legacy in this field of and one of the most conscious institutions in terms of environmental and social responsibilities, as well as government regulations that fall within the responsibilities of the institutions. This complements its performance standards and the long-term sustainability of its business.
Banque Misr is also the first state-owned bank to be accredited according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards for sustainability. It also issues its business report in accordance with the principles of sustainability by taking into consideration governance and human rights, combating corruption, social inclusion and environmental safety standards. The bank also adheres to the UN Global Compact standards for citizenship (corporate social responsibility). It is worth noting that Banque Misr spent EGP600million for social development sector in FY 2017/2018.
Believing that CSR is the pillar upon which the bank’s sustainability strategy is hinged, Banque Misr’s leading role in CSR was achieved by several direct and indirect contributions through its non-profit foundation “Banque Misr Foundation for Community Development” (registry no. 7045/2007).
Through its non-profit foundation, Banque Misr has several social development contributions either directly or indirectly for a better society. The foundation has contributions in various sectors including health, education, as well as social solidarity and development projects such as developing Egypt’s most-in-need villages and slums as well as projects for developing human resources.
Banque Misr has made major contributions at several sectors for community development. for heath sector, it allocated EGP 300 million for the construction of “Shefa Orman” third phase under the title "Banque Misr Building." It also provided significant contributions to various university Hospitals, including Cairo University Hospitals, Ain Shams University Hospitals, Assiut University Hospitals, Zagazig University Hospitals and Mansoura University Hospitals.
Besides, the bank has been a South Egypt Cancer Institute and Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation. This is in addition to organizing many medical convoys in many villages. Banque Misr participates in an initiative under the auspices of President Al Sisi to address avoidable blindness and promote quality eye health by allocating EGP 80million for Tahya Misr Fund’s initiative, “Nour Haya.” This contribution came out of the bank’s commitment to ensure accessible healthcare for all Egyptians.
Regarding education sector, Banque Misr funded the establishment of student services building at Zewail City for supporting strategic studies.
The building represents a real breakthrough in terms of professional guidance and training through advising the students about their academic journey and offering internship opportunities at major companies in Egypt and abroad. The bank also supported Nile University through a scholarship program designed for supporting entrepreneurs, as well as all the University students.
In regard to social responsibility, Banque Misr has received several international awards, including the award of the "Best Bank in CSR– Egypt 2018" from the United Kingdom-based magazine "Global Business Outlook", and the award of "The Best Bank in Social Responsibility – Egypt" for 2018 and 2019 from International Business Magazine
